ENGINEERS’ CONFERENCE
| GATHERING AT AUCKLAND INDUSTRIAL DISCUSSIONS The Dominion conference of the New | Zealand Amalgamated Engineers’ Union will be opened by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, on Monday morning, and a conference of the Ironmasters’ Federation, New Zealand, will be opened by the Mayor on Tuesday. Following the conferences, the two organisations will meet at a social function arranged by the union, and general questions affecting the business of both concerns will be discussed. The most important subjects for deliberation will be unemployment, the arbitration system, and apprenticeship, while another question will have to do with a Dominion award covering general engineers, motor mechanics, tinsmiths, and sheet metal workers. This will be the first conference in Auckland since the union was formed. The national officers at present are Mr. J. Sturrock, president, Christchurch: Mr. G. T. Thurston, secretary: Mr. H. Gunns, vice-president. The local arrangements are in the hands of Mr. Pv. F, Barter, local secretary.
