HISTORIC TROOPSHIP
Formerly the Waimana, the Aberdeen White Star steamer Herminius, arrived at Auckland last evening with 6,000 tons of basic slag frem Antwerp. The vessel, when under the Shaw, Savill and Albion line, was called the Waimana, and had made many voyages to New Zealand. She was used as a troopship during the war, and since she was renamed has also been trooping, taking British soldiers to China. The Herminius took from England to China the Scottish Rifles, two pack batteries of artillery and a detachment of the Royal Army Medical Corps. After disembarking the soldiers and their equipment the Herminius remained in Chinese waters for nine months transferring troops between the various ports.
