SPORTS POSTPONEMENT AT THE DOMAIN
SUBURBAN CRICKET’S POSITION Vigorous criticism of the fact that, owing to the postponement of a sports meeting last Saturday, the Domain will not be available for cricket for another fortnight, was made at last night's meeting of the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association. Mr. G. Stallworthy said that the amateur athletic authorities were quite entitled to hold a meeting at the Domain, but the conditions under which last Saturday’s meeting was postponed called for a protest to the City Council. He questioned their right to retain possession under such circumstances. Members drew attention to the fact that the postponement would mean that suburban cricket could not be ! resumed for another fortnight. The opinion was expressed that the Domain was in reasonably good order for the holding of sports last Saturday. It was decided to authorise the association’s solicitor to write to the City Council for an interpretation of the by-laws governing the use of the Domain cricket ground, and to protest against the present state of affairs. It was decided to recommend to the Junior Board that all games played last Saturday should count in the competition, and that the remaining fixtures should be proceeded with at a later date, if necessary. All suburban matches will be postponed on Saturday, March 25, which is the starting date of the test match between New Zealand and Australia at Auckland.
