FAREWELL SOCIAL TO MISSIONARIES

RETURNING TO CHINA “My fourth term in China is going to be the most difficult I have encountered owing to the changed conditions,” said Miss Maud Dineen, who is returning to Hanchow after furlough, at a farewell function to herself and Dr. Phyllis Haddow in the St. Mary’s Schoolroom last evening. Miss Dineen explained that the peril and danger to missionaries and their work came from disloyalty in the Church, and she showed liow the revolutionaries had used an old native Christian, excommunicated by an American missionary church, to cause trouble in her home, but no harm was done. Dr. Phyllis Haddow, who is going to Sydney to study, prior to her return to China toward the end of the year, regretted that she was not retui ning to China with Miss Dineen, but said that the hospital at which she was stationed at Hanchow was still in the hands of the revolutionaries. Ladies of the Church Missionary Society served supper at the conclusion of the addresses, and songs were given by the Misses V. Harrison arid D. Richardson, and instrumental trios by the Misses Venables. HAMILTON TENNIS DANCE OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION The committee of the Hamilton High School Old Girls' Association gave an enjoyable tennis dance in the Masonic Hall, Claudelands, on Saturday. Sims and Russell, Misses Tizard, Gordon, White, M. Wilson, E. Wilson, L. Frankham, D. Speight, A. Newell, E. Newell, J. Masters, A. Turley, G. Hodgson, A. Wilson, W. Sergei, H. Haze, N. Taylor, B.
