The indignation caused by recent speeches in the Tyrolese Diet and Austrian Parliament has resulted in various deputies tabling inquiries as to Mussolini's view of the disgraceful manifestation of hatred against Italy. The allegations are described as a “campaign of impudence and falsehood,” which responsible Austrian circles are conducting against the application of Italian laws in the Italian province of Bolzano. Deputies are also inquiring whether the limits of foreign States’ intervention have not been reached. Newspapers warn the League of Nations and other foreigners from attempting to interfere in the question.—A. and N.Z. According to a cablegram on Saturday, Tyrolese members of the Austrian Chamber of Deputies made amazing allegations of ill-treatment in South Tyrol of German women as well as men, and of the breaking up of homes. There was no freedom of speech, he said. ‘‘This state of affairs weighs heavily on my heart,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ignaz Siepel, “but Austria must rely on the opinion of the world, for she is powerless.”
