DEMPSTER’S DOUBLE CENTURY RICCARTON LEADS IN CHRISTCHURCH Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sunday. The senior cricket championship was continued yesterday. Results:— Institute made 481 against Old Boys. Petone made 182 against Midland., who have lost seven wickets for 166 runs. Against Thorndon University scored 201, and Thorndon have made 59 without loss. Playing Knbirnie. Hutt compiled 184, to which Kilbirnie have replied with 127 for five wicBest performances were:—Batting: C. S Dempster (Institute), 219; R. Crook (Institute), 122 not out; J. Patrick (Petone). 71; W. A. Aldersley (Hutt). 63; A. Morris (Kilbirnie). 58; E. McLeod (University), 50. Bowling: G. Hearne (Kilbirnie) took six wickets for 52 runs; H. R. White (Y.M.C.A.), 5-65; C. G. Finlayson (Petone), 5-74; W. A. Baker (Midland), 5-65. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Good weather prevailed yesterday for the conclusion of'the ninth round of the senior cricket competition. Championship points now are: Riccarton, 15; High School Old Boys, 14; Sydenham, 13; St. Albans, 11; East Christchurch, 10; Linwood, 10; Old Collegians, 3; West Christchurch, 2. Riccarton and Old Boys meet in the next round and this match should virtually decide the championship. With 102 runs on for one wicket Riccarton set out to reach St. Albans’ first innings score of 248, and made 357 (Cox 68, Roberts 64, Evatis 50, Powell 94). J. Johns took five wickets for 76 runs, Norrie three for 74. St. Albans escaped an innings defeat,, the score being 91 for six wickets when stumps were drawn. Old Boys likewise failed to secure a threepoint win against Sydenham. The latter’3 first innings score of 206 was beaten by 101 runs, but Sydenham kept going until stumps were drawn when the score was 162 for eight wickets. Batting for Old Boys Jacobs made 105, Nixon 55, Hobbs 59. Bowling in the second innings Merritt took seven Sydenham wickets for 77. Linwood’s first innings total of 311 was far too big for West Christchurch, and the side was out for 184 (Newman 50). Bowling for Linwood, S. Yates took six wickets for 39. West Christchurch in the second innings scored 223 for five wickets. East Christchurch, with 274 runs for seven wickets, against Old Collegians (209) declared, but Old Collegians played out time, scoring 106 for five wickets (Bruges 45). HAMILTON, Sunday. Hamilton beat Hamilton East by five wickets in the senior cricket competition on Saturday. Hamilton East made 116 in its first innings and 225 in the second (Going 56, Timms 29). Pomeroy took rive wickets for 37 runs. Hamilton made 266 in its first innings and compiled the necessary 76 runs in the second innings for the loss of five wickets (Hemus 27, Taylor 22). THAMES, To-day. The results of Satuday’s cricket compepetition did not displace the position of the leading teams Karaka holds No 1 position and Tararu is second a point behind. On Saturday Karaka. gained a four point win from Ramblers, scoring 162 in one innings (R. Buchan 27, Dr. Sowerby' 16, G. Buchan 64, Mcßae 23). Ramblers’ two innings produced 61 (Gregory 16) and 21 (Satchell 10). Tararu scored 42 (Hammerton 16) in the first strike and 61 (Rickett 13) in its second. High School replied with 29 and 33. Cleane’s (Tararu) bowling was unplayable, and Mortimer (High School) got most of Tararu’s wickets. WHANGAREI, Sunday. Whangarei cricket team meet Hikurangi cricket team on Saturday, the latter scoring a three-point win. Whangarei m its first innings made 60 (Dickey 17 not out). Arneil took seven wickets for 34 runs. The second innings realised 95 (R. Jennings 29). In its first innings, Hikurangi made 155 for six wickets declared (Rickard 50, W ilson. 42). In securing the necessary three runs for a three-pointer. Hikurangi lost three wickets. In the High School v. Onerahi match, Onerahi made 71 and T>7. High School made 34 in the first innings and 61 in the second. This was a two-pointer for Onerahi. Portland secured a three-point win against High School B. Batting, High School made 39, and Portland 203 for nine w’ickets (declared). High School was dismissed iu its second innings for SS. The Y.M.C.A. v. Marsden match was very interesting. Y.M.C.A. with ISS on, seemed to be very safe when Marsden went in to bat, but Marsden soon passed its opponents’ total, making 203 for the loss of one wicket (Kemp 103, Crickett 73).
