SHIPPING OFFICERS’ PICNIC

PARTY AT MOTUTAPU The annual picnic of the Shipping Officers’ Guid of New Zealand was held yesterday at Motutapu. About 200 people and a band left the Northern Company’s Wharf on the s.s Waipu. A sports programme had been arranged by the honorary secretary, Mr. A. G. Aitken and the following »ommittee: Mr. Ewing, chairman: Mr. Paul, vice-chairman; Mr Buckley, treasurer: Her son. Band. McLoughlin, Davies. Dixon Edmonds, Clark and Shaldrick. All events were keenly contested,! especially the tug-of-war. The judges were Captain Haynes. s.s.' Waiapu, Chief Officer Green, s.s. Waiapu ancl Mr. Paul. The handicuppers were Mr. O’Meara and Mr. Cerruttz and Mr. E. Towers acted as starter. The results were: Guild Championship.—Buckley, 1; Reason, 2. Junior Clerks’ Handicap.—Menzies. 3 Evans, 2 Staff Ladies’ Race.—Miss Gerrard, 1. Miss Bradley, 2. Married Men’s Race.—Giles, 1. Bond. Oigarette Race.—Sumner and Miss F.utler, 1.
