OTAHUHU COUNCIL WORKERS
ANNUAL PICNIC The annual picnic of the Otahuhu Borough Council employees was held at Duder’s Beach on Saturday by the kind permission of Mr. Duder. Owing to the unfavourable weather conditions prevailing in the morning a late start was made for the rendezvous, but on the clearing of the day a very enjoyable outing was participated in by over 80 picnickers, who made the journey in two of the Passenger Transport Company’s buses. An excellent sports programme had been arranged by the committee, and some very keen contests were witnessed. Mrs. Thos. Clements presented the trophies, which had been donated for competition. The sports programme included seventeen races for children, and the results of the principal events are as follow:Single Women’s Race.—Miss Cochrane 1, Miss J. Laundy 2, Miss B. Laundy 3. Wives of Employees.—Mrs. Johnson 1, Mrs. Chatfield 2, Mrs. Ander and Mrs. Sleatt 3. Married Women’s Race, open.—Mrs. McKeith 1, Mrs. Tucker 2, Mrs. Johnson Employees 100yds Championship, silver cup.—R. Cochrane 1, M. Goodall 2, W. McConnell 2, I. Kelly 3. Men’s 100yds. Open Handicap.—W. Kelly 2, R. Cochrane 3. Sack Race.—W. MacManus 1, W. McCollell 2, I. Kelly 3. t Race—J. Hedge and. Miss B. Laundy 1, I. Kelly and Miss H. Laundy <2, R. Cochrane and Miss Cochrane 3.
