A TAURANGA CELEBRATION To mark the approaching- completion of the Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth, and Company’s railway contract between Wairoa and Tahawai, a banquet was given by the firm’s staff and employees at Tauranga, on Saturday. Mr. J. E. Rumble, the company’s agent, presided. The chairman read a telegram from Mr. A. Whitley, representative in New Zealand of the contracting firm, in which he expressed appreciation of the way in which the company’s staff had carried out their duties, and also expressing thanks to the members of the Public Works Department staff at Tauranga for their courteous co-opera-tion. Various speakers referred to the many difficulties encountered on the contract in connection with bridging, slips, and subsidences. Cordial reference was made to the good feeling between Public Works Department engineers and those of the contractors.
