MANUREWA RAILWAY BRIDGE
COMPLETION IN SIGHT As the result of the Manurewa Town Board agreeing to increase its subsidy on the work of straightening and widening the overhead railway bridge from £2OO to £3OO, it is probable that the work will be proceeded with at once. A start was made some time ago, but as the board would not pay moVe than £2OO as its share till their full commitments were known in connection with the Great South Road loan work, the Railway Department ceased operations, and all through the summer the dangerous state of this part of the main highway has been a bone of contention -with the travelling public. At the last meeting of the board a balance sheet showed an estimated balance of £1,200, and the subsidy will be increased to £3OO. Messrs. Fawcett and Osborne voted against the proposal, and asked that their objections be noted in the minutes.
