JUMP FOR SAFETY
GIRLS IN BLAZING BUILDING Exciting fire rescue scenes were witnessed in De Beauvoir Road. Hackney, N., London, when a number of girls were trapped on the upper floors of a building. The fire broke out on the ground floor in a workshop of Mr. F. H. Sherry, trading as M. H. Adams, women’s dressing gown makers. The upper floors were occupied by L. de Rose and Co., men’s dressing gown makers. Several girls jumped out of the windows in the front of the house into an overcoat which was held for them, while others clambered on to a glass roof at the back, end were rescued by firemen. Two girls, in jumping, were slightly injured. Miss Winifred Wedlock, an employee, was lighting the radiator when it blew back. In a few seconds the room was ablaze. The front room on the ground floor was burnt out before the fire was extinguished by the brigade.
