N. C.Snedden Will Captain Auckland XI.

Position In Regard To Captaincy Explained NO DEPARTURE FROM CHOICE As there is some doubt shout the position in regard to the captaincy ot the Auckland XI- to play the Australians, the following official explanation has been made: At the meeting of the Selection Committee held on Thursday, February 16, Messrs. E. C. Beale arid G. B. Cummings requested their co-selector, Mr. N. C. Snedden, to play against the Australians and captain the Auckland XI., and Mr. Snedden agreed to do so. Before publication of the names of the fourteen chosen to practice and of the fact that Mr. Snedden had been chosen as captain by his co-selectors, the chairman of the Management Committee. Mr. E. E. Nalder, was asked by | Mr. E. C. Beale to confirm the action of the selectors, which he did. At the first meeting of the Management Committee after February 16. that is, on Tuesday. February 21, Mr. Beale pointed out that the selectors had therefore not exceeded their power by actually appointing the captain, such, appointment resting with the Management Committee. The usual procedure is that when the eleven is selected for a representative match the selectors recommend a captain, and as their choice in the present case has already fallen on Mr. N. C. Snedden, and as that choice will most • assuredly be confirmed by the ManI lgement Committee when the eleven is selected, there is no doubt whatever that Mr. Snedden will lead the Auckland side against the Australians. There has not been the slightest suggestion of any departure by the selectors from their choice of captain, which was final and decisive, and the matter has not even been discussed since such choice was made.
