BAND CONTEST
FINANCIAL SUCCESS TO-DAY’S RESULTS Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Yesterday's sessions of the band contest were again largely attended and the financial success of the meeting is now assured. Results are: B Flat Cornet Solo. —W. Kay (Wellington Tramways), 98, 1; H. F. Vincent (Greymouth) and J. Wills (Invercargill Civic), each 95, 2; R. Ohlson (St. Kilda), 94, 3. Tenor Horn. —W. Smith (St. Kilda), 96, 1; J. Henderson (Greymouth), 93, 2; L. Jacobs (Queen Alexandra's Own), 92, 3. The soprano solo and competition for boys under 17, “any instrument except corner,” was decided this morning, the sopranos being of the usual good standard. Webb (Queen Alexandra’s Own) just standing clear for artistic rendering. In the boys’ section a remarkably fine trombone performance, “Crystal Palace,” by the winner, E. G. Williams (Woolston) was the outstanding feature. Williams is only 15 years of age. Results: Soprano, E. Webb (Queen Alexandra’s Own), 94, 1; T. McLean (St. Kilda), 92, 2. Boys: E. G. Williams (Woolston), 97, 1: L. Carruthers (Greymouth) and S. Crisp (4th Cadets), equal, 2.
