WOMAN WHO TOLD
COURT ACTION PREJUDICED INFORMATION FOR WITNESSES Prest Association. GISBORNE, To-day. An unusual interruption occurred on th G hearing of an information for assault in the court to-day when counsel for defendant disclosed that information was being carried out of court to witnesses ordered out of hearing. A woman In the case was brought before the magistrate .and ordered to remain at hand, but while waiting to be dealt with, she explained to a policeman that she had given the information as alleged. ’The magistrate immediately adjourned the hearing to allow plaintiff’s counsel to consider the question of withdrawing the information in the case, as his witness had received advice on a crucial point of cross-exam-ination.
After a short adjournment counsel said that his client agreed that it would be unfair to proceed with the case owing to defendant's counsel being prejudiced in his right of crossexamination through the interference ofthe woman.
Tho magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., issued a stern warning to the woman and advised her to keep away from the court.
