MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD
NEW CHAMBERS AUTHORISED At the ordinary meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board held last evening a letter was received from the engineer to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, who stated that he was unable to fix on a design for the inclusion of the Three Kings area in the drainage district until the road board had decided upon the proposed combined scheme referred to by him in November last. This comprised an area of 447 acres, and to have it included in the drainage district would cost the road board £1,049, while a further sum of £372 was now payable for the four years ending March 31, 1928, based upon the assessments that would have been payable if the area had been included within the drainage district on April 1, 1924. The question was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs. Tozer, Davies and Brewer. The plans were adopted of a new public hall and road board offices modelled on the Newmarket municipal buildings to cost £6,400. It was resolved to seek authority of the Loans Board to raise an amount of £2,500 for the purpose. The board has a sum of £4,800 already in hand, and a further amoum: for furnishing and emergencies is to be included in the loan. The board decided to advertise that no garden hoses or watering cans would be permitted until the drought breaks. The city tramways manager wrote expressing the opinion that the additional bus asked for on the Buckland Road service between 7 a.m. and 7.25 a.m. was not required. “Just the reply we expected,” said the chairman. “Same old thing.” “Nothing doing till after the commission sits,” remarked other members. The engineer reported that a sump hole in Greenfield Road has been excavated to a depth of 41ft through solid rock into an open scoria cave, which would greatly improve the condition of the stormwater nuisance in that area. Another similar excavation is proceeding in Beckenham Avenue, where a depth of 43ft has been reached. The board is extending its activities in the supply of'water by the establishment of tanks at Arkell Road, Ridge Road and Frederick and Belfast Streets.
Since the board's last meeting 12 permits have been issued for buildings to the value of £2,997, and 14 buildings are in course of erection.
