OVER FERN AND PASTURE
RAVAGES AT TE AROHA (From Our Own Correspondent) TE AROHA, To-day. A fire which started at Waiorongomai yesterday afternoon swept 900 acres of native bush, scrub and fern country. Fanned by a stiff breeze, the flames mowed down all before them, fences, pasture and standing bush. Cattle in some places were in danger, but so far as is known all were removed safely. Grazing land has been laid bare and miles of fences laid low. It is thought the fire was started by blackberry pickers.
