PLUNKET SOCIETY
TAUMARUNUI BRANCH Mrs. L. G. Godfrey, president, was in the chair at the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui Plunket Society, with Mesdames Carter, Johnston, Seaton, Richter, Mclsaac, Harris, Perry, McLennan, Miss O’Connor, and the secretary, Miss B. M. Hellings, present. Mesdames Weatherhog, Keller, King, Roscoe-Smith, Ford, Wackrow, Goodsir, and C. P. Smith sent apologies for their absence.
Nurse Worthington, who is on annual holiday leave, presented a report showing that she had paid 165 visits to the office and 104 visits to homes during the month of December. The relieving nurse, Miss Watt, submitted a report for January, which showed that she had paid 206 visits to the office, and 98 visits to homes. The two reports disclosed that the health of the children had generally been good, despite the trying conditions engendered by the abnormallly hot weather. The society accepted with regret Mrs. Bertram’s resignation from the committee, due to her removal from the district.
The secretary reported that 70 circular letters had been sent out to mothers who were not members of the society, but who consulted the nurse, asking them to subscribe to the funds. Money subscribed is not subsidised by the Government, which merely makes an annual grant toward the nurse’s salary. This constitutes only one-third of the expenses, and the other twothirds have to be met by voluntary subscriptions only. It is felt that if mothers and families who receive the nurse’s advice become aware of this position, they will gladly assist in the matter of giving.
