PERSONAL. —Mr. P. E. Hyaji has relieved Mr. J. Glasgow as chief officer of the Opihi. Mr. J. M. Hood, second officer of the Kairanga, has been invalided ashore at Auckland; Mr. W. Kehoe has succeeded him.

Mr. E .G. K. Meatyard has relieved Mr. R. E. F. Osborne, second officer of the Kahfka, for holidays.

Mr. O. C. Bray is joining the Tahiti as second officer, relieving Mr. F. W. Gibson for holidays. Captain Charles Clift arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington. HORORATA LEAVES COLON. —- Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Hororata left Colon on Tuesday for New York, Halifax and London, en route from Auckland. KAIRANGA LEAVES NEWCASTLE.— Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Kairanga cleared Newcastle at 6 a.m. on Friday for Wellington and Miramar. She is due there next Wednesday.

MAKURA AT SAN FRANCISCO. —The Union Company advises that the Makura arrived at San Francisco on Friday from Wellington. She is timed to sail again on Wednesday for Papette, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney, and is due there on March 12.

REMUERA LEAVES SOUTHAMPTON. —The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Remuera sailed from Southampton on Friday with passengers, mail and cargo for New Zealand. The cargo is for discharge at Auckland, Wellington and Napier. She is due at Auckland on March 24.

KANNA LEAVES SURPRISE ISLAND. —Advice received by the local office of

the Union Company states that the steamer Kanna left Surprise Island at 7 p.m. last Wednesday for Walpole Island. Noumea and Auckland.

HINEMOA DELAYED.—Spedding, Limited advises that the Government steamer Hinemoa has been delayed at Auckland and now leaves here at noon next Saturday for Norfolk Island. Cargo is to be received alongside the steamer on Friday.

HERMINIUS TO LOAD—L. D. Nathan and Company have been advised that the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Herminius, which is due at Auckland on February 2S from Antwerp with basic slag for discharge here, will afterwards load at Auckland for London and West of England ports.

, F * U, JT STEAMER WAIPAHI.-The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Island fruit steamer Waipahi leaves Sydney at 10 a.m. tomorrow for Suva, taking the usual monthly transhipments for Tonga and. Samoa. The Waipahi is scheduled to leave Suva on March 2 for Auckland.

KAIWARRA FROM NEWCASTLE.— Phe local office of the Union Companv has been advised by radio that the collier aKiwarra is expected to arrive in fie stream at Auckland at 6 a.m. to-morrow from Newcastle. She will later berth at the Western Wharf to discharge her cargo, after which she will pay off owing To the slackness in the coal trade.

PORT NAPIER TO LOAD.—It is announced by the C. and D. Line that the Fort Hunter is due at Port Chalmers on March -0 from Australia to load for New lork, Boston and London. She will load also at Lyttelton, 'Wellington, Napier and Auckland, and is to sail finallv from Auckland on April 6 for New York, Boston and London, via Panama. FOR HULL AND LONDON.—The New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Argyllshire is due at Tokomaru Bav on March 1 from Australia to load for Hull and London. The vessel will also load at Gisborne, Waikokopu, Bluff. Port Chalmers and Wellington. She is due there on March 23, and will sail finallv from Wellington on March 27. PORT CAROLINE'S PASSENGERS.— The C. and D. Line 'steamer Port Caroline, which left Wanganui roadstead on Saturday for London, via Panama, took the following passengers:—Misses Cooke, Pierce, N. A. Lyon, M. Miller, Hr. and Mrs. Wylie and child and Mr. R. Cook. JDr. Lyon is accompanying the vessel as ship’s surgeon.

PLUME LEAVES SAN PEDRO. Cable advice received by the Vacuum Oil Company states that the tanker Plume left San Pedro on January 31 with a cargo of bulk motor spirit for discharge at Sydney, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Tne vessel is due at Sydney on February 24, at Lyttelton about March 4, and at Dunedin about March 7.

CORNWALL TO LOAD.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Cornwall will leave Brisbane next Friday for New Plymouth to commence loading for London and West Coast ports of Great Britain. She is due at New Plymouth on March 1, and will load afterwards at Wanganui, Lyttelton and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on March 12, and will sail finally from there on March 15.

OIL FROM TEXAS.—The Texas Oil Company has received advice that the steamer King Edwin was dispatched from Port Arthur, Texas, on January 31 with a full cargo of case oil for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Napier, New Plymouth and Australia. it was formerly reported that the vessel sailed on January 15. She is expected to reach Auckland about March ‘t. Another steamer is to load at Port Arthur this month for the Texas Oil Compart and will unload at Auckland and Australian ports. She is aue at Auckland about the end of March.

STEAMERS TO LOAD WOOL. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua, which is due at 'Wellington irom London and Southampton next Saturday, will come to Auckland to complete discharge and also to load wool and other New Zealand produce for London. The vessel is scheduled to commence loading at Auckland on March 8, and she is to ue despatched from Wellington for London on ivxarch 31.

Now discharging and loading at Port Chalmers the ±> eaeral Line steamer Cambridge is scheduled to come to Auckland on March iy to complete loading wool and other New Zealand produce ior London. She is to be dispatched from Auckland about March 24 ior London direct.

' PHOSPHATES FROM NAURU ISLAND. With phosphates from Nauru island, the tramp steamer Wonganella arrived at Auckland last evening. She will unload 2,t>uu tons at King s vVhari and tne remainder at Wanganui. Tne vessel sailed from Nauru island on February 8 ana experienced strong easterly winds until she was within 3uo miles of Auckland. The Wonganella is owned by Messrs. Crosby and Company, Melbourne, but sne is registered at Capetown. Sne is continuously engaged in tne phosphate trade. The crew total 50, all told, of whom 40 are Filipinos and ten Europeans, tone was at Auckland two years ago. Captain ±i. buiiern is in command, and the ioilowing are the officers: —cmei, Mr. a. The Port Hunter, on completion of discharge at Dunedin at the end of this month, will proceed to load at Wanganui, Napier, and Wellington. She will leave Wellington on March 28 for London, via Panama.

PORT BOWEN TO LOAD.—From Port Kembla, where she bunkered, the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Bowen, arrived at Auckland yesterday morning and berthed at the Central Wharf to load a quantity of meat and general cargo for England. To-morrow evening she is to sail for Opua, Gisborne, Napier, Wellington and New Plymouth to load refrigerated and general cargo for London and West Coast ports of the United Kingdom. Subsequently the vessel will return to Auckland to complete loading. She sailed from Liverpool on October 28 for Tampico, Mexico, where she loaded a quantity of bitumen. Afterwards the vessel filled up at New York with case oil and general cargo, which was discharged at Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne. Later at Burnie and Devonport, Tasmania, she loaded grain and timber and then went to Port Kembla to bunker before coming to New* Zealand. The voyage is reported to have been uneventful.

ROTORUA REPORTS. —According to a radio message received by the New eZaland Shipping Company, the liner Rotorua . en route from London and Southampton, is expected to arrive at Wellington on Saturday afternoon. The vessel, which is bringing passengers, mails and cargo will later come on to Auckland and is due here about March 4. TOFU A ARRIVING. —Radio advice received by the local office of he Union Company states that the Island passteamer Tofua is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at 3.30 o’clock this afternoon from Suva. She will berth later at the Queen's Wharf, and is scheduled to leave Auckland at 11 a.m. next Saturday for Suva, Tonga and Samoa. STEAMER YARRA AFIRE.—What is believed to be a serious fire has occurred on the Norwegian steamer Yarra. commanded by Captain Rothe, in port at Giro, in the Solomon Islands. The vessel arrived there on December 23 aller calling at Tasmanian ports, Newcastle and a number of other South Sea Island ports. The Yarra, which is of 5,076 tons gross, was laden with copra and called at GiZ" for additional freight. The fire was in the after holds, where copra was stored, and the vessel has been beached. The captain and crew are safe. This is the second fire within a fortnight on a steamer loading copra in the South Seas. The other vessel was the Clan Macwilliam. Her fire raged for two days. The master and the chief engineer were drowned, and the vessel destroyed. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE—

The Arapawa, sailing this afternoon for Wanganui, returns to Onehunga about Friday next. The Ngapuhi sails from Onehunga at 4 o’clock this afternoon for New Plymouth, and is due back at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Hauturu leaves Onehunga to-mor-row afternoon for Raglan, Kawhia and Waikato Heads and returns next Friday morning.
