GAOL FOR YOUNG WOMAN
“A LAMENTABLE THING” GUILTY OF DISHONESTY “It is a lamentable thing that a presentable young woman like you should descend to crime and have a long record involving dishonesty,” said Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court this morning, when admitting Ivy Hazel Kite to reformative detention for a period of two years. The prisoner was found guilty last week of receiving stolen property. She asked this morning that his Honour make the sentence as light as possible, and she would behave herself when she came out of prison. Mr. Hubble, for the Crown, pointed out that while awaiting trial the prisoner was arrested and charged with theft. She was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. His Honour said the only thing to do was to place the prisoner under control in order that the kink in her system could have a chance of being cleared out. The sentence would commence at the expiry of her present term of three months.
