SUBURBAN POLICE

AVONDALE DISTRICT EXTRA CONSTABLE PROPOSED It is probable that before long the police supervision in the Avondale and New Lynn district will be strengthened. The Commissioner, Mr. W. B. McIlveney, visited the area with his inspectors yesterday, and if suitable accommodation can be procured, a constable is likely to be placed at New Lynn to relieve the burden of the man now stationed at Avondale, who has to cover both districts. The Commissioner, in commenting upon this this morning, expressed the belief that this would make for greater efficency in these suburbs, because the work which the Avondale constable was called upon to do was too much for one man according to the standard of efficiency which was demanded of men in the force.
