PROPOSED EPSOM PARK
DEVELOPMENT OF DOMAIN Eosom is one of the few of Auckland’s residential districts not possessing a'developed park or adequate recreation reserve for the use of its people. There is certainly an area of some 12 , acres fronting Gillies Avenue and known as “The Domain.” But this land Is in so rough a state and is usually so overgrown with gorse and littered with , stones as to be useless for the purpose for which it was originally set apart. With the ultimate view to laying out this extensive area as a recreation ground and nark, ratepayers of Epsom and two members of the City Council met on the ground recentlv and decided to petition the council for its svmoathetic consideration of the While it is recognised with appreciation the work the council has r>er*nrrned 1" laving nut a small area near thf* “Old Mil!” with unemployed labour, ft is felt that a more comprehensive nroiect is necessarv for so large a district. It was decided to form an Ensoni Doom in Club aud take steps to •**e*eiop the area. The land was former!v vested in what was known as the Ensom Domain Board in ISBI. for ultimate conversion into a nark. Although an attempt was made in 1914 to make a start with the scheme. lack of money prevented the earrying out of the r»lan. In 1917 Ensom became part of the city and the dqmain vested in the Auckland Citv Council.
