U.S. SHIPS FOR SALE
NO SENATE INTERFERANCE By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Rec. 10.15 a.m. WASHINGTON, Thurs. The Commerce Committee of the Senate has agreed not to interfere with the proposed sale of the Pacific lines by the United States Shipping Board. According to officials of the board this decision makes virtually certain the sale of the lines to the highest bidders. —A. and N.Z. Two tenders were received for the American Oriental Line of seven ships. The admiral of the line offered £134,071, and a syndicate of business men at Tacoma, Washington, offered £139,380. On behalf of the Portland, Oregon, Corporation, which is not yet organised, Mr. K. Dawson offered £213,000 for the Oregon Oriental Line. The Matson Navigation Company and the American Hawaiian Company put in a joint tender of £396,351 for the American, Australian and Orient Line, consisting of 21 ships.
