FIGHT WITH MARLIN
HOOKED BY THE TAIL A GREAT STRUGGLE (From Our Own Correspondent) RUSSELL, Wednesday. Doctor George Radmore, of London, who is spending a holiday among the big game fish, had rather an exciting combat with a swordfish yesterday while fishing off Bird Rock, near Gape Brett. Ten minutes after arriving on the fishing grounds the doctor struck a fish and it went off like a torpedo, taking all but 25 yards on a 300-yard reel. The fish fought very fiercely, during which time it breached no fewer than 20 times. After over 50 minutes' thrilling fighting the fish was brought alongside the launch. It was then discovered that the striped marlin was hooked in the tail, and a half-hitch of the wire trace round it. This no doubt accounted for the powerful rush and the difficulty experienced in pulling him alongside. Dr. Radmore speaks in high praise of the manner in which Mr. L. Warnes handled his launch. When the fish was brought into Urupukapuka Camp it was found to weight 2401 b.
