STRUCTURE BEING ERECTED A brick structure faced with concrete and in Gothic style is shortly to be erected at Howick to replace the old building destroyed' by Are last year. Mr. E. G. Hallett has bought the freehold and licence, and the. new hotel will contain approximately 20 rooms. Mr. A. Bartleet is completing the plans and it is hoped that the work will commence within a month. The cost of the building will be £5,000, and the total expenditure after furnishing and laying out the ground is estimated to be £IO,OOO. The site is on the main road in the centre of Howick on the corner of Picton and Uxbridge Streets, and commands an extensive view. All the ■bedrooms will overlook the harbour. The entrance' will be on a corner, a drive running in from the two roads under a pillared portico. -
