SPEED-BOAT REGATTA
NOMINATIONS RECEIVED DETAILS OF PROGRAMME Gratifying entries have been received for the New Zealand Power-Boat Association’s speed-boat and outboard motor-boat regatta to be held on Saturday afternoon on the Whau River. Indications are that the contests will be the most successful yet conducted in Auckland. No fewer than 13 outboards will compete. This field is the largest yet assembled in the Dominion. In addition seven speedboats have signed up for the events for the large craft. At present there are only three nominations for the fast cruiser classes. Details of starting systems, courses and entries are as follows; Speedboat Handicap.—Starting on Mark Foy system. Three minute flag limit boat to start at 2.45 p.m.. Course: From startting line between end of point and mark, thence down stream round mark off old wharf, thence round mark at starting line, thence round mark off old wharf, finishing across starting line. All turning marks to be rounded on starboard hand. Approximately five sea miles. Entries: Bonzo, Fleetwing, Junr., Baby Dev, Hobo, Spot 111., Miss Northcote, and Miss Cheltenham. Handicaps to be declared to-morrow. Outboard Championship for gold cup given by John .Burns and Co., Ltd.—AH beats start together at 3.15 p.m. on threeflag system. Third flag will be horizontal 15a before start. Course: From starting line between jetty just above Robertson’s Point and mark, thence up stream rounding two marks in turn on starboard hahd, thence round outer mark at starting line on starboard hand, and so on for five laps, finishing at starting line. Approximately five sea miles. All outboard motor-boats must clearly display numbers shown on programme. Entries: Miss Akarana, Kurly Kale, Caille 1., Duohess Caille, ’Op It, Rose Marie, Peggy, Rainbow, Mary Lou, Bacteria, Jeff Evin and Mr. O. J. Collings’s new boat not yet named. Fast Cruiser Handicap.—Starting system and course same as for event No. 1. Entries: Tarua, Lady Margaret and Tasman. Handicaps and further nominations will be published to-morrow. To start, at 3.50. Outboard Consistency Race.—For Farmers’ Cup. Starting system same as for event No. 2. To start at 4.25. Course same as for No. 2, except that race is over four laps only. Approximately four sea miles. Boats will race on the points system as explained In detail yesterday. Entries: Miss Akarana, Kurly Kale, Caillie 1., ’Op It, Rose Marie, Jeff Evin, Bacteria and Mr. Collings’s new boat. Speedboat Championship.—For Auckland Challenge Cup, given by Walker and Hall. Handicap race will be run in conjunction with this event. To start at 5 p.m. Starting system same as for event No. 1. Course also same, except that race is over three laps only. Approximately 7£ sea miles. Entries same as for event No. 1. Outboard Handicap Race.—To start at 5.35 on system used in event No. 1. Course same as for event No. 2, but thx-ee laps only. Approximately three sea miles. Entries same as for event No. 2, with addition of Miss California.
