COMMUNISTS BARRED. The Metropolitan- Conference of the Australian Labour Party overwhelmingly declared against the admission of members of the Communist Party.—A. and N.Z. NEW BRIDGE LAWS.—The new laws on auction bridge, the revision of which was completed early in January, have been printed in London and will come into operation on March I.—A. and N.Z. LINDBERGH'S FINAL HOP.— Colonel Lindbergh hopped off from Havana early yesterday morning on a 1,200 miles flight to St. Louis. This will be the last stage of his “goodwill tour.” —A. and N.Z.-Sun. 400 MEN ADRIFT. —An ice-breaker was hurriedly despatched from Leningrad on Sunday to the rescue of 400 fishermen, who were carried out to sea on icefloes. The latter were broken up on the coast during a storm.—A. N.Z.Sun. YUGOSLAV SUBMARINES.—Courtesy calls were paid at the Portland naval establishments on Saturday by the officers of two Yugoslav submarines which have arrived in the harbour from Devonport. The submarines which were built at Newcastle, will remain at Portland for two weeks.—A. and N.Z. MISSION FROM URUGUAY. —A special mission from Uruguay appointed to return the recent visit of the Prim e of Wales to that country arrived at Victoria station from Calais last evening. The party was met by representatives of the King and the Foreign Office. The mission is to be received by His Majesty at Buckingham Palace. — A. and N.Z. KINO’S VISIT CUT SHORT. —The visit of the King of Afghanistan to Belgium was curtailed owing to His Majesty cutting a deep gash in his neck while shaving. In spite of advice to the contrary he visited Antwerp where the wound grew worse. The King then abandoned his programme and left Antwerp for Switzerland.—A. and N.Z.
