WELCOME RAIN
PASTURES FRESHENED FEW DROPS IN CITY Several showers fell in the districts surrounding Auckland yesterday, but tho few drops that were felt in the city itself were insufficient to more than wet tl*e roofs of the houses upon which it fell. The sky became tantalisingly black in the early afternoon, and hopes were entertained by many that the drought would be broken by a sharp downpour. The rain touched only the outlying districts, however, and Albany, Henderson and Pine Island received a few heavy showers during the day. Tourists to Waikowhai Beach were caught, and many of the suburbs experienced the rain to a greater or lesser degree. Along the Northern, coast districts motorists found the clay surface made slippery by the downpour, but the parched ground soon absorbed the water. In some places the rain was sufficient to make an appreciable difference to dried pastures. RAIN IN MANAWATU TOWN RESERVOIR FILLED Press Association. * PALMERSTON N., Sunday.
