The boarders will assemble on Monday afternoon, an increase in the roll is recorded for the ensuing year, 50 new boys have been enrolled up to the present. New scholarships, which have been awarded, comprise the King’s Boarding Scholarships, to the value of £9O per annum, the successful scholars being. Lewis Evan Lewis, of Epsom School, who gained top place among the boys of the Auckland province, in the recent Junior National Scholarship examination, Denver Harold Calder, of the Grafton District School, who won a junior National Scholarship in 1927, and John Plugge, of King’s College, who gained a Junior National Scholarship in 1927. A Myers-Bankart Scholarship to the value of £SO per annum, open to boys attending certain recognised Preparatory Schools, has been awarded to Donald James Hildreth Meredith, of Southwell Preparatory School, Hamilton. _ _ _ _ ADDITIONS TO STAFF Owing to the growth of the college, additions to the staff have been found necessary every year, and this year is no exception to the general rule A new arrival on. opening day will be Mr. V. E. J. Wells, from Bradford College, England, while Mr. I. A. E. Daniel, of the University College, Oxford, has been appointed to a temporary position on the staff, during the absence in England of Rev. J. M. Beaufort. M.A. Other changes in the staff for the ensuring year are: Mr. L. W. Delph M.A. (Cantab.), becomes housemaster of Middlemore House, and Mr. A. Thomson, B.Sc., B.A. (N.Z.), becomes housemaster of Town House, which comprises the day boys. The college authorities are indeed gratified at the record success of the boys in the recent Matriculation Examination. About 12 per cent. :>£ the .boys doing secondary work, having been successful, and when it is remem - . bered that the college takes any boy of good character, who wishes to attend, these figures have aroused wide spread congratulation among its wellwishers. The authorities are also pleased to report the success of C. I. Hobday, in winning a Junior University Scholarship, and this despite the fact that he is under age. This scholar received his preparatory education at King s Preparatory School, Remuera. The opportunity was taken during the long summer vacation to have extensive repairs and improvements effected in the classrooms of the college. This was made possible by the generosity of certain friends of the college, and will mean much in the way of increased efficiency in the teaching side of school life. In common with the rest of the Auckland Province, the cricket fields have been seriously effected by the dry weather. The outfields at present is very parched, but, thanks to the copious supply of water from the Otahuhu Borough Council, the groundsman has the six match wickets in first-class order. When the first term commences on Tuesday, a change will be noticed in the college uniform. The boys of both the college and the preparatory school will don a light grey shirt, in nlace of the dark grey, which has been in vogue for the past few years.
