MILK NOT RISING YET
JOINT COMMITTEE’S DECISION
NO IMMEDIATE SHORTAGE There will be no further increase in the price of milk in the immediate future. A joint committee of producers and retailers in Auckland came to that decision yesterday. But if bran, hay molasses and other stock foods become short in supply through a continuance of the drought, the public may have to pay an extra half-penny a quart. The increased cost of production could not be met by the farmers alone. The dry weather and tl\e burning of pasture have brought farmers who supply milk to the city into difficulty. They are forced to rely on concentrated foods and to use winter fodder. Sufficient supplies of milk for the city are still coming forward and there is no prospect yet of an actual shortage.
