“SLIGHTLY INTOXICATED”

CHARGE AGAINST MOTORCYCLIST A farm worker at Pirongia named John Harvey appeared before Messrs. W. C. Savill and W. Jeffery, justices, at the Te Awamutu Court on Friday morning charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-cycle. Harvey pleaded guilty to being “slightly intoxicated.” The Bench, after considering the fact that the fine for this offence may be £IOO or three months’ imprisonment, and also suspension or cancellation of the driving licence, recorded a fine of £lO, suspended Harvey’s present licence and disqualified him from obtaining a fresh licence for two years. Constable Doyle stated that accused was travelling at an excessive speed, estimated to be 40 miles an hour. Travelling on the wrong side he met a motor-car at a corner. In trying to cross over the cycle skidded, and the rider was knocked out, but not seriously injured. He was fortunate he escaped as he did, and did not cause injury to others. He was a single man and had only been in the Dominion about a year.
