FISH COMPANY MERGER
AUCKLAND FIRM EXTENDS BRANCHES IN WELLINGTON An arraigement has been made under which the firm of Sanford. Ltd.. of Auckland, is to take over the business of the Wellington City Fish Supply Company (Messrs. Pippos Bros.), and trade in Wellington under the name of Sanford, Ltd. The merger, which has just been completed by Mr. G. Sanford after a visit to Wellington, will embrace the five shops at present operated by the company in the Canital City. The James Cosgrove, one of the trawlers now operating in Auckland, will be thoroughly surveyed and sent down to trawl off the Wellington coasts. She is fitted with iceboxes, permitting her to remain at sea for six days, and will therefore not be restricted to the immediate coastal waters if the fish prove locally scarce. While no contracts have yet been arranged, there will be no limitation on the catches, the whole of which will be taken by Sanfords Ltd., whose intention is to prevent the present waste not only by handling arrangements and distribution, but by the full utilisation of all products, even to sharks caught in the nets. With this combination operating, the fish available in large quantities in Wellington which are not caught to any great extent in Auckland, such as groper and hapuka, will be sent here, preventing any waste in the South, and widening the range of fish available on the Auckland market. Similarly, any shortage in Wellington of fish such as schnapper and flounder, which are caught in large numbers in the Hauraki Gulf, will be met by the despatch of supplies from Auckland-
