FOR POINT CHEVALIER
ANOTHER FINE GIFT MR. H. JOHNSTONE GIVES £SOO A further offer, involving £SOO. has been made by Mr. Haliyburton Johnstone for improvements in the Point Chevalier area. The City Council was advised last evening that Mr. Johnstone had been approached in the direction of transferring a piece of land 265 feet long by 66 feet wide, to later enable Walmer Road to be extended to Dignan Road. Mr. Johnstone agreed to do this provided the council paid £SOO for the property, the £SOO to be in turn transferred to the trustees of the new bowland sports ground, and expended in improving the grounds, which were a former gift by Mr. Johnstone. The offer was accepted by the council, the amount to be paid next April.
