CAPITOL

“ROSE OF THE GOLDEN WEST” Montrey, California, a civilised community years before the revolutionary war, the site of California’s first capital and one of the most impressive combinations of land, sea and trees in the Americans, furnishes the background for the action in “Rose of the Golden West,” George Fitzmaurice’s latest production for First National Pictures, now at the Capitol Theatre. The story of “Rose of the Golden West” is built around the stirring historical events of 1846, and much of it was filmed on the very spots where the history making action took place. The featured members of the cast of the story include Mary Astor, Gilbert Roland, Montague Love, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Flora Finch and others. Circus life, which has long lured Tom Mix, Fox Films Western ace, is seen in all its colourful backgrounds in “The Circus Ace,” which is also being screened at the Capitol Theatre. Mix rides herd on some of the most dramatic scenes of his screen career. Natalie Joyce, a beautiful girl of Old Virginia, is seen opposite the intrepid Westerner. William Stack, the Shakespearean actor, has just arrived in New York, en route to Los Angeles, where he will enter pictures as a protege of Reginald Denny. Mr. Stack was in New Zealand a year or so ago.

Patsy Ruth Miller having recovered from her recent illness, Universal is now in a position to begin “Hot Heels,” starring Glenn Tryon.
