CHIEF LIBRARIAN AT WELLINGTON

AUCKLANDER APPOINTED MR. J. NORRIE OF LEYS INSTITUTE Mr. Joseph Norrie, librarian at the Leys Institute, Ponsonby, has been appointed chief librarian at Wellington, where he will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. H. Baillie. Mr. John Burns, chairman of the Wellington City Council's Library Committee, made this announcement at the conference yesterday of librarians in Christchurch. The Aberdeen Public Library gave Mr. Norrie his first experience in library work. He subsequently served at Walthamstow Library, London, and studied at the Libraries’ Association School. Later he worked at the Glasgow Public Library, and in 1914 was placed in charge of the Glasgow Central Lending Library. One of his associates there was Mr. John Barr, the present Auckland City librarian. Mr. Norrie has been in charge of the Leys Institute library since 1924. He served in France with the A.S.C. from 1915 to 1919.
