WATER MAIN BURSTS

A SPECTACULAR DISPLAY MUCH WATER LOST Many thousands of gallons of water that could not well be spared ran to waste in the city last evening when a water main burst in Victoria Street West just above Albert Street. A constable noticed the break about 11.30 p.m., and he notified the water authorities who were son on the scene, but some 20 minutes elapsed before the water could be stopped. In the meantime a large column of water, which divided into three, shot upward, the main column reaching as high as two-storeyed buildings, the whole providng a very spectacular display, deluging buildings, and flooding the water channels. The break ocurred at a fire-plug.
