CREW TO SAIL AVALON
OFFICIAL SELECTION MADE The official selection was made last evening by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association of the crew to sail Avalon, the Auckland challenger for the Sanders Cup contest to be held at Paterson’s Inlet, Stewart Island, on Friday, February 17. The chairman, Mr. J- B. Johnston, that in accordance with the usual procedure the skipper and owner were given the opportunity of nominating the rest of the crew. Both Messrs. J. Fatrick, skipper, and F. Cloke, owner, had suggested that Messrs. H. Browne and E. Matthews should be the other members of the crew. Both were experienced yachtsmen and had previously taken part in Sanders Cup contests. The view that the younger yachtsmen should be given a chance of sailing in the contests was expressed by Messrs. W. J. Matthews and O. Moller. It was contended that this would not only encourage the boys but would create greater interest. It was decided after further discussion that the crew nominated by the owner should sail Avalon. The boat will be railed to the Bluff this evening and the crew will leave by the Limited express on Sunday evening.
