RAIN HOLDS UP CRICKET

MATCH AT BRISBANE QUEENSLAND SCORES WELL By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. BRISBANE, Monday. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match, Victoria v. Queensland, the home side to-day increased its first innings score from 180 runs for two wickets to 384 for nine. Rowe made 134„ Oxenliam 65 and O’Connor 54. Heavy rain overnight had made the outfield heavy and dead, but had not affected the wicket as it had been covered. Shortly after play commenced a heavy shower caused a cessation and the wicket was again covered. Several heavy showers in the afternoon caused further delay. The Queensland batsmen played carefully. O’Connor and Oxenliam by means of cautions play slowly increased the score. Rowe, after a slow beginning, hit out and quickly increased the total until the failing light caused the cessation of play for the day.—A. and N.Z.
