Life Dacre Comes To Life Again
Some Lightning Hitting It was a great loss to the cult’ of brighter cricket when Life Dacre accepted a position which entailed a lot of country travellling, and absence from town, and it robbed the game of a hurricane hitter who joyously fractured bats, fowlhouses, and bowlers’ averages. Life still loves to have a whang at times, and tried his strength with the Shore Colts on Anniversary Day, when he took about 10 minutes to knock up 26, which was marred by two singles, before being stumped. On Saturday the Colts were lucky to have him again for their journey to Papatoetoe, where they were in a delicate position. The Papatoetoers had totted up 269 the previous Saturday, and Shore had lost two good wickets for 71. FIERY CRICKET The senior Dacre fairly revelled in the fast and true wicket of matting on concrete, and he opened the eyes of the natives on the village green with a whirlwind of hurricane hitting. The Colts had eight wickets down for 162, and needed 100 to equal the home score when Life began to hit. He scored 95 while H. Smith made five, and then carried his total to 116, which included seven sixers and 11 fours, giving Shore a lead of 19 runs. FIFTY-THREE IN 15 MINUTES Papatoetoe then made 146 for two wickets, and declared, giving the Colts 40 minutes to obtain 128 for a fourpoint win. Life livened up again, and Shore won with five minutes to spare. Dacre’s second spasm produced 53 in 15 minutes, including three sixes and seven fours. In the match, 825 runs were scored, which was setting a good example to the senior A stonewallers. SK *
