POSITION OF TEAMS
-I- rr rr m rK ri- & & & & & & rS rk Ht seemed set for a good score against bis old club mates. A USEFUL STAND The Y.M. colt and Elliott continued to play the bowling with confidence in spite of frequent changes with Dacre, 11. and D. Webb, and Walters. The century came up after 90 minutes' batting, but with the score at 121, Lyon fell l.b.w. to Saunders after playing a solid 23 and assisting to add 60 to the score. Further disaster was in store for Y.M.C.A. when Miller followed, for without addition to the score, Elliott failed to time a nippy one from Eon Webb, and was clean bowled for a characteristic 63, which included five boundaries and had taken about two hours to compile. Miller had made up his mind to try attacking tactics, and started on Saunders with a big boundary hit followed by a soaring sixer which was loudly cheered. But in Eon Webb’s next over his luck failed to hold, and a big lash at an offbreak went high to Bush at deep cover, and the other Eon was out for an unlucky 13. D. WEBB’S DESTRUCTIVE SLOWS At the tea interval Y.M. had lost four wickets for 136, and on resuming Riddolls, Gorrie, and Pearce all made useful stands, and saved an innings defeat, but found the slow breaks of the Grammar School midget too tricky for over-cautious play, and the youngster finished up with the highly creditable average of six wickets for 47 runs. In addition to the disheartening loss of Bowley, the Y.M. were without Poeppel and Hunt, and with seven wickets down the innings closed for 204 after three hours’ batting; so Shore needed but 34 runs to secure a fourpoint victory. Eacre and Saunders made light of the task, the Auckland captain bagging 29 out of the 34 before Saunders got his eye in, and the home team won easily without loss of a wicket. Eetails: — _ SHORE.
