MR. G. WALKER’S FUNERAL
A LARGE ATTENDANCE The funeral of the late Mr. George Walker, who was accidentally drowned near Tokaanu last Thursday, at Purewa Cemetery yesterday afternoon, was largely attended by Auckland business men, which spoke eloquently of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Canon P. E. James, vicar of St. Mary’s Cathedral, conducted a short service at the late Mr. Walker’s home, Roslyn Avenue, Remuera, and afterwards the cortege, including about 50 motor-cars, proceeded to the cemetery. The hearse and the following car were covered with many beautiful wreaths. The burial service at the graveside was conducted by Canon James. Those present included members of the Cvra Lodge of Freemasons and representatives of the South African War Veterans’ Association. The late Mr. Walker served with the sth New Zealand Contingent in the second Boar War, and was also for some time a member of the executive of the association, in which he took a keen interest.
