IMPORTANT ROAD

THAMES TO MERCURY APPEAL TO MINISTER (From Our Own Correspondent) THAMES, To-day. The newly-formed road, which is ten miles shorter than the old road froThames to Mercury, and known as the Tapu-Coroglen Road, is creating' antagonistic feeling at. the Coromandel end. At a recent meeting of the Coromandel County Council, a motion "That the Council ask the Public Works Department to metal the newly constructed Coroglen-Tapu Road" was not carried. The chairman said the greatest -art of the road was in Thames County, but strong influences appeared active in its behalf in the Mercury Bay district, and this was a detriment to the Cormandel- - Bay Road. He urged concentration on the latter road. The Mercury Bay supporters of the new road have not taken the rebuff lying down. A public meeting was held, and a deputation will wait on the Minister of Public Works re the matter. It was pointed out at the meting that the road was an important feeder to Thames trade, and unless metalled would be useless for several months in the year. In connection with the metalling of the road a letter was received by the Thames Borough Council on Thursday asking for support, which was agreed to. The Thames Chamber of Commerce and County Council have also been written to seeking co-operation.
