EMPIRE
TWO BIG FILMS ‘ The .Wreck,” a Master picture, opened yesterday at the Empire Theatre, with Shirley Mason and Malcolm McGregor introduced as a delightful new screen team, and with a rattling good melodrama of a story written by Dorothy Howell. Miss Mason is a fiery little thing, and McGregor a handsome, virile hero in this story of innocence adventur-
ing among crooks, and the supporting cast also gives praiseworthy characterisations. Cinema photography of out-of-door vistas has seldom recorded more sublime beauty than that which serves as a background to the Metro - GoldwynMayer production. "The Valley of
Hell,” starring Francis McLonald, which is alscn being screened.
The Big Horn Ranch in Western Nevada, famous for its natural beauty, was chosen as the permanent location of the Francis McLonald company. Edna Murphy supports Francis McLonald as the leading feminine player, and is a charming vision of loveliness. William Steel, who plays the part of the villain, ably takes care of the “dirty work.” Anita Garvin plays the part of a dance-hall girl with a bad disposition, while Joe Bennett portrays the difficult role of a dissolute and drunken young brother of the heroine.
