SUPERSTITION DEFIED
DINNER IN TERRIFYING SURROUNDINGS GRIM EXECUTION SCENE By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Friday. For the purpose of defying superstition members of the Seize Club dined at Dunkirk in circumstances which were as astonishing as any in age-long history of hospitality. The head of the table was over shadowed by an authentic guillotine with a triangular blade stained with blood. The executioner, who was impersonated by a wild creature carrying a formidable knife, accompanied the victim, who was stripped for execution. A basket was placed ready to receive his head. The diners were seated at tables covered with white shrouds and lighted by ghostly, flickering candles. The walls were drr-ied in black. Members of the Seize Club pride themselves in their courage in disregarding superstitions. They say that the assembly throughout was the gayest despite the gruesome surroundings.—A. and N.Z.
