JEALOUS DE VALERA
ATTACK BY MR. HEALY “A BARREN IMPOSTOR” By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Feb. 3. In an interview which he gave to the Dublin correspondent of the “Daily Express,” Mr. Tim Healy, who recently retired after a period of five years as Governor-General of the Irish Free State, spoke most candidly, r - pecially with reference to Mr. De Valera. Mr. Healy said jealousy and not patriotism were at the root of Mr. De Valera's position. He was vain and shallow and without a shred of ability. He insisted upon splitting the Irish race by pretended intransigeance. His reign of terror in the name of the Irish Republic brought only bloodshed and ill-will. He was noth* ing but a barren impostor. “If his futile and costly rebellion of 1922 had not occurred," said Mr. Healy, "I think there would have been a rapprochement, but the Ulster Protestants could not be expected to enter a State afflicted by deadly outbreaks of factions organised by this so-called leader of the Irish people.”— A. and N.Z.
