TREATY OF WAITANGI MONDAY’S BROADCAST A Maori “radio pageant” in commemoration of the signing l of the Treaty of Waitangi on February 6, 1840, is being broadcast by .the Wellington station* 2YA, on Monday night, and will be re•»broadcast by both t\ie Auckland and Christchurch stations. This entertainment, which is being given by a selected party of talented Maori musicians, is intended ,to depict the history of the native race from the time of the landing in New Zealand to the present day, giving an insight into their life and customs. The entertainment will be in six phases, one being a real Maori concert. Here there will be broadcast rousing hakas and rliythmatic poi dances as well as vocal items and a solo on the only Maori instrument, the flute. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Sir Maui Pomare are taking part in the pageant, the former in connection with the part played by the native race in the Great War. The latter will speak on the historic treaty. In order to introduce the right atmosphere, the well-known poem of the Hon. Sir Apirana T. Ngata, “Scenes from the Past,” has been largely drawn on, and will be used to describe some of the pageant as it proceeds. At li o’clock on Tuesday night the broadcast will be repeated for the benefit of overseas listeners.
