A CHARGE OF THEFT

MAN SENT FOR TRIAL A plea of not guilty and a request to be tried by a jury were made by Harry Coliins (49) in the Police Court to-day. Collins was charged with the theft on November 3G. 1927, of a quantity of eppper wire, the property of the Auckland Electric - Power Board, valued at £l9 3s 9d. The evidence showed that the wire was missed from the board's yards in Hobson Street. A dealer in Freeman’s Bay said that the accused came to his shop early on the morning of November 30, with some wire to sell. The man gave his name as T. Smith. He came the next day, and each time gave the same name but a. different address. He had a moustache then, but he was now clean shaven. When interviewed by the police the accused denied all knowledge of the theft. He was commuted to the Supreme Court for trial.
