MECCA OF MOTORISTS
SPEED KINGS AT MURIWAI PREPARING FOR BIG CROWDS To-morrow afternoon the wheels of many motor-cars will be directed toward Muriwai Beach, and the traffic will continue until noon on Saturday, by which time it is expected that there will be a very large gathering at the beach to see the annual motor-racing events, the Muriwai fixture being the best of its kind in this country. It is the intention of a great number of motorists to camp at the beach over the week-end, and they will start out on Friday afternoon, or early on Saturday. The road is expected to be good. People returning will start leaving after the races on Saturday afternoon, but there will be many who will prefer to make the return by moonlight, while a considerable number of cars will stay over till Sunday evening. Hot water and meals, if necessary, will be obtainable at the beach, and ample provision has been made for camping. Attendants will be on duty from 4 p.m. on Friday until after the races on Saturday.
The Australian and Southern cars have joined the local contingent at the beach, and some good times are being recorded in the trials, so that a firstclass meeting is anticipated. It is hoped that conditions will be good enough on Sunday afternoon for the speedsters to make an atempt to lower the New Zealand record of 100.2 miles an hour, at present held by a Sunbeam, for a five-mile spurt on the beach. , Digging toheroas will be prohibited prior to the races, but there will l*e swimming and plenty of schnapper fishing for those interested.
