BIRKENHEAD WATER

WAITAKERE SUPPLY OPPOSED The Birkenhead waterworks engineer reported to the Borough Council last night that the consumption of water in Birkenhead had reached near 250,000 gallons daily, averaging nearly 75 gallons a head of the population. The consumption for December had been 6.800,000 gallons, and tor January 5,580,000 gallons. The surface of Lake Takapuna had fallen 10 inenes since the end of December. The Mayor. Mr. E. G. bkeates, laid that the water supply was excellent, and no restrictions whatsoever had to be imposed on Xorth Shore residents. Members of the council who visited the Waitakere and Xihotupu dams l ast week reported that they considered the scheme to supply the Xorth Shore from these sources to be utterly unsatisfactory. _____
