that the excitement of the Hawke’s Bay and Forbury Park trotting carnivals Has subsided, attention will oe turned to fixtures nearer home, and during the next six weeks Aucklanders will have plenty to interest them with the approaching Otahuhu, Waikato and Thames meetings. The Otahuhu summer carnival opens on Saturday, February 18, and will be concluded on Wednesday, February 22. A feast of good things will be provided, chief of which will be the long-established Otahuhu Cup on the opening day, and the Dominion Handicap on the final Hay. Both events are endowed to the extent of £I,OOO, and there are numerous other items valued from £3OO to £550. The attractive card should prove a big draw, and it is safe to say secretary Absolum will be up to his eyes in it cn Friday next, when entries for all events will be received till 5 p.m. but not a minute later.
