NEW RECORD FOR HASTINGS

T?Y pacing a mile in 2.11 4-5, the time being taken for the final eight of a ten-furlong run, the Auckland crack pacer Jewel Pointer has established a fresh record for this distance on the Hastings track. Two years ago the club arranged for Imprint to give an exhibition run over eight furlongs, and from a flying start the Nelson champion traversed the journey in 2.14. The policy adopted by the club of procuring one of the top-notchers to give an exhibition at the annual fixture is a commendable one and must be appreciated by the sport-loving public of the Bay district. If the committee in its ambitious mood would curtail some of the limits to the scheduled events, a far better class of horse would be seen in competitive heats at Hastings.
